St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby May Recognizes Ten-year-old's Heroism

St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby May took the opportunity to recognize a true hero, ten year-old Zachary Phillips before the beginning of the St. Francis County Quorum Court meeting this evening, Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Zachary was hailed as a hero for saving the life of his little sister, Presley Reeves, age 4, by using the Heimlich maneuver while she was choking on a piece of candy during a recent trip to Forrest City. Zachary learned the Heimlich maneuver from his teacher, Mrs. Ashley Buie. Zachary's class was taught last year by Mrs. Buie how to save themselves if they were choking and how to aid others as well. Zachary remembered what he had learned and used that knowledge to save his sister's life.

Zachary was presented a Certificate of Recognition for his heroism for saving his little sister which was signed by Sheriff May. He received a Sheriff's Badge key chain; a St. Francis County Sheriff's Cap and a monetary gift from Sheriff and Mrs. May as well. Ms. Buie also received a Certificate of Recognition for her outstanding leadership in the teaching profession.

"I am very proud of young Zachary for his heroism. It is important that we recognize the heroes of our community. Thanks to Zachary's heroic efforts, his sister's life was saved. He is an example for all young people of St. Francis County."
