Who: The St. Francis County Sheriff's Department, the First Judicial District Drug Task Force, the Office of the Arkansas Drug Director, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Arkansas Attorney General's Office, the U.S. Attorney's Office, government agencies, community organizations, and public health providers
What: The first ever National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
When: Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: St. Francis County Sheriff's Department parking lot
Why: To prevent increased abuse and theft of prescription medications. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
